Lulu @ 10 Months

On the roof of the Oceanography Museum, Monaco Ten months ago today Lulu arrived. Time has ticked-tocked by so fast, but we’ve managed to seize the moments as they’ve flown away with photos & vids. We’ve done a lot of traveling together- Vancouver, Banff, Salt Spring, Brazil, France…soon we’ll be in Hong Kong and Japan. Happy 10 months,...

Rio: Lulu’s Day At The Beach

Rio de Janeiro may not be the first place that comes to mind when considering a holiday with a 7 month-old baby, but we like a challenge. So far, it’s been paying off. We’re staying just a few blocks away from the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana and Lulu is adjusting well from the harsh cold of Edmonton. For her first day at the beach we packed a PeaPod for her to take shelter in. Despite the overcast skies, we all got a bit too much sun. Blessed

“We were blessed By the innocent baby  Who taught us the truth” One of our favourite singer/songwriters is Lucinda Williams. It’s not a coincidence that you share her name. Her music radiates an audacity of empathy and her song, “Blessed,” ties together some of my elemental inspirations – Billie Holiday, Van Morrison, the Stones, Dylan – weaving them into an expression of wonder at the totality of grace. End Of Summer

Summer’s finally winding down – today it was only 8° C in the cruel badlands of Edmonton. Soon we’ll tramping through the snow at -20. At least we had a beautiful summer, your very first, Lulu. The grandparents were here for two whole months and they just returned to Niigata, Japan last week. I know you miss grandma’s attention and patience. She’d spend so much time with you every morning and evening before you’d go to sleep. They were such a great help and it was good to be surrounded by the Japanese language. We’re going to raise you in a bilingual...

Baby Days Are Here!

Lucinda “Lulu” That’s you! Such a beautiful baby girl. You arrived 9:20 am, July 15th at the Royal Alex  weighing 7.1 lbs (3.2 kgs). When your mum’s water began to break on the afternoon of the 14th, I was at the gym. I made a routine call home and after hearing the news I hustled back on my bike, my mind speeding so much further ahead than I could pedal. After arriving we left together with her mum – your grandma – while grandpa stayed home. Once in the car, your mum started experiencing her first contractions… When we got to the hospital it was...
